Nivio de Lima, a businessman from the auto parts sector, achieved his dream by buying the PUMA for one million dollars. He resumed production and allocated the first car for himself.
The brand, which was deactivated since 1985, is the latest attempt to try to rebuilt it from the Araucaria S/A (Inc.) from Curitiba, Sao Paulo, Brazil, which failed because the company bumped into debt of PUMA Vehicles & Motors with Volkswagen of Brazil. But Nivio has taken his dream with his feet on the ground: he worked eight months quietly investing another million dollars in a carmaker in the Industrial City of Curitiba and changes in aesthetic and in mechanical improvements in the more powerful version of GTB. To ensure himself, Nivio negotiated with a U.S. retailer providing 318 PUMA AMV 4.1 in one year, but it’s not really known if these AMV were exported.
The Puma AMV 4.1 is the third generation of the Puma GTB that was launched in the late 80s and early 90s. He is a redesign of the Puma GTB/S2 manufactured until 1984 and 1986/1987 by Araucaria S/A.
Major improvements in PUMA AMV 4.1 was the “new” Banks with RECARO interior lining of leather, the new design of the instrument panel semi-surround, Panhardt stabilizer bar, the brakes were safer with the adoption of an equalization valve, Air – Conditioning (Hot or Cold), light-alloy wheels using 205/60 tires, hydraulic steering, electric control of the windows, radio cassette player with digital electric antenna.
The performance of PUMA AMV reached 175 kph against 168 kph for the last produced by PUMA GTB/S2 Araucaria S/A, maintaining the same acceleration of 0-100 kph mark in 10.84 seconds, took less time in resuming speed with 18.03 seconds to go from 40kph to 120kph against the GTB/S2 of Araucaria S/A with 22.19 seconds.
It is not known exactly how many PUMA AMV 4.1 came to be produced since 1988 but have been very few, and also with the opening of the market for imported sports cars definitely sealed the trajectory of PUMA AMV 4.1. Currently, remaining AMVs in good condition are highly valued in the market for antique cars due to their low production.
