Some of Nashville’s most celebrated musicians and composers will perform at the 2024 Maui Songwriters Festival, from Jan. 6 to 13, taking place at the Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua and the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. The series of shows will include benefits for those impacted by the Aug. 2023 fires.

The stellar lineup includes Old Dominion, Chase Rice, Elle King, Drake Milligan, Sonya Isaacs from The Isaacs, David Lee Murphy, Emily Weisband, Chris DeStefano, Jimmy Yeary, Ryan Larkins, and Shelby Darrall. Maui will be represented at the festival by Wilmont Kahaiali’i, Jason Arcilla, Gail Swanson, Naiwi Teruya, and Brian Santana.

Old Dominion will kick off the festival at the MACC on Jan. 6 with Mishka opening. The festival will then continue at the Ritz with a “VIP Benefit Songwriter Showcase Evening” on Jan. 7, to benefit employees and families of the resort impacted by the fires.

Complimentary “Alaloa Live — Kapalua Concert Series” shows will feature Arcilla on Jan. 9, and Swanson and Kahaiali’i on Jan. 10. A “Live at Alaloa Lounge” show on Jan. 11 will include Teruya.

On Jan. 12, Murphy, DeStefano, Yeary, and Larkins will talk about composing country hits at the “How I Wrote That Song” event. And a “Christian Songwriters Showcase” on the 12th will include Isaacs and Yeary.

The festival “Finale Show & Auction for Maui Recovery” on Jan. 13 will star Chase Rice and Elle King and friends, joined by Maui’s Kahaiali’i and Swanson. A benefit auction will be held at the show for encaustic art pieces by Karen Jury, signed by Willie and Lukas Nelson, and signed by Steven Tyler, plus ukulele’s signed by all the 2024 participants.

Among the country stars appearing at the festival, Grammy nominee and Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Award winner King rose to fame with a unique sound mixing country rock with punk, blues and bluegrass influences.

Her biggest hit, “Ex’s and Oh’s,” from her 2015 album “Love Stuff” topped the Billboard charts. Her single “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” with Miranda Lambert sold platinum and became a crossover hit. Besides Lambert, she also collaborated with Joan Jett and rockabilly star Wanda Jackson on the song “Two Shots.”

King released the acclaimed album “Come Get Your Wife” in 2023. A Highway Queens review noted: “With her twangy voice and tattoos, Elle King fits perfectly into a particular type of country music: the rock and roll inspired style perfected by Miranda Lambert and taken up by Ashley McBryde. Elle made successful guest appearances on mainstream country songs and made the full leap over to the genre with ‘Come Get Your Wife’.”

The Academy of Country Music nominee for New Male Vocalist in 2016, Rice has sold more than two million albums and over two and a half billion streams. His hits have included “Ready Set Roll” in 2013, “Eyes On You” in 2018, and “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen,” with Florida Georgia Line in 2020, which topped Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.

Rice’s latest album, “I Hate Cowboys & All Dogs Go to Hell,” included the radio-ready summer anthem “Bad Day To Be A Cold Beer.” The record was praised by Six Shooter Country as a winner, that will “prove to be massively popular when performed live due to its personal nature and authenticity.”

The 2024 Maui Songwriters Festival is presented at the Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua from Jan. 6 to 13, and at the MACC on Jan. 6. More information and tickets for all shows are available at www.mauisongwritersfestival.com. Old Dominion tickets are available at www.mauiarts.org. A portion of proceeds from events at the Ritz will be donated to the Maui Recovery Efforts via Jean-Michel Cousteau’s People to People Humanitarian Relief Fund, Hawaii Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui.
