The Dragon Age franchise is poised to make a comeback, as Dragon Age Dreadwolf draws closer. Developer Bioware returns for the next instalment, which could be the most ambitious entry yet. Now, a new leak claims to shed light on several gameplay details, including the game’s refined combat system – which could be influenced by God of War.
According to a recent post from Redditor ‘revanchisto‘, they claim an “article by Tom Henderson prompted me to make this post instead of responding to every reply in that thread […] a kind playtester shared their recorded gameplay of DA4 that was in early Alpha at that stage. I saw what they recorded before they were shuffled to another project.” Alongside a description of numerous gameplay aspects, the leaker claims a video of gameplay was captured but “until I get their permission, it will remain private.” However, it appears that early alpha segments have begun to appear online.
“Combat is completely in real-time and similar to a hack and slash. I’m told the guiding reference point was the God of War (2018), and that shows,” says the Redditor. In tandem with this, they allege that the “player has their regular combo attack and then their abilities as well as a special bar which generates allowing you to pull off a special move.”
In regards to party utilisation in Dragon Age Dreadwolf, the leak suggests that “there was no party control demonstrated. I think it’s a safe bet to say you will not be able to directly control your party members in the game.” However, they mention that this feature “was locked off in the alpha.”
Though the game’s lore could be changed before the Dragon Age Dreadwolf release date, the leak details that in the alpha the “player character is a mid-level Grey Warden […] Darkspawn are currently attacking Weisshaupt and there are roots all over the place alongside Red Lyrium […] Oddly, the Darkspawn also apparently are infused with Red Lyrium and have Red Lyrium attacks.”
As the alpha gameplay continues, allegedly “the objective is to fight through the Darkspawn to get to the library, but as you are doing so there is also a big ass dragon attacking from above [..] the dragon creates occasional environmental and traversal hazards.”
It remains to be seen whether these details are a correct summation of the forthcoming title, as previous reports from Bloomberg detail the removal of other gameplay features such as multiplayer. Either way, Dragon Age Dreadwolf is one of many upcoming PS5 games set to make a splash in 2023 and beyond.
