Are Idaho's tax rebates taxable?

August 2024 · 1 minute read

The Idaho State Tax Commission has been reviewing whether or not the tax rebate that some Idahoans received in 2022 is considered taxable income after receiving several phone calls asking about it.

On February 10, 2023, the IRS announced that taxpayers who received the rebate do not need to report those payments on their 2022 federal or state income tax returns for the state of Idaho.

The Idaho Tax Commission will be sending out corrected 1009-G forms to taxpayers who itemize that exclude the amount of the rebates from 2022.

“We’re not pleased that the IRS waited to make a decision after 1099s were required to be sent,” said Tax Commission Chairman Jeff McCray. “This delay is costing Idaho taxpayers unnecessary rework and angst. We expect better from our federal partners.”
