Amber Igiede had 14 kills, hitting .500, as the University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team started its final homestand of the season with a hard-fought 25-17, 29-27, 25-21 sweep of UC San Diego on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Tali Hakas added 12 kills, and Kennedi Evans and Caylen Alexander each contributed seven kills for the Rainbow Wahine, who improved to 20-8 overall and 13-4 in Big West play.

Kate Lang had a double-double with 11 digs and 29 assists as UH hit .313, and Tayli Ikenaga had 13 digs.

After rolling in the first set, the Rainbow Wahine needed to fend off a pair of set points in a tight second, finally taking it on a kill and then ace from Kendra Ham.

The third set was similarly close, but Hawaii was able to pull away with 4-0 run –which included three kills from Alexander — that made it 23-19. A pair of kills from Alexander and Evans ended it.

Sabire Karacaova led the Tritons (17-13, 9-9) with 10 kills.

The Rainbow Wahine celebrate Senior Night tonight as they take on Long Beach State. Following the match, UH will honor its senior class of Igiede, Evans, Ham, Riley Wagoner, Talia Edmonds and King Kekaulike High School graduate Chandler Cowell.
